The First Canadian Healthcare
Conference featured an article
entitled "Dementia-related
challenges" by Sherri
Torjman, which highlighted a number
of challenges for caregivers in the
health care system. "Of the total
168 hours in the “24/7” week for
which caregivers must be available,
only a weekly maximum 15 hours of
home care is provided by the formal
system of services"

Seniors' Mental
Health and Dementia: Accelerating
Knowledge Transfer and Exchange
Experts and stakeholders in the
fields of senior’s mental health,
dementia, and knowledge transfer and
exchange came together for a two-day
Think Thank at the end of March.
Outcomes of the event included:
informing the development of a
national knowledge exchange network
and centre, identifying
opportunities to leverage local,
provincial and national
organizations involved in knowledge
exchange in the area of seniors'
mental health and/or dementia and
exploring the the option of
creating a Knowledge Transfer and
Exchange Community of Practice. An
addition, a national KTE Knowledge
Bank was created with the support of
AKE and the Senior’s Health Research
Transfer network that contains
hundreds of literature references
that related to knowledge transfer

User-friendly
Educational Guides for Seniors and
their Families
The
CCSMH has produced a series of
user-friendly educational guides for
older adults and their family
members on key mental health
topics: mental health issues in
long-term care homes, delirium,
depression and suicide prevention.
