  The Importance of Your Support...

Over one hundred years ago, Dr. Alois Alzheimer described the symptoms and pathology of the devastating disease that bears his name. Our knowledge of Alzheimer Disease and the many related dementias that adversely affect individuals and their families has grown dramatically. The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region is a recognized leader in the field of Dementia Care. The Society, along with other community partners, have developed a range of specialized programs that enhance the quality of life of individuals with dementia and all who love and care for them. In this changing climate of health care and competition for resources, we will strive to ensure that these valuable programs will continue.  We also have a unique challenge in Niagara, due to the fact that we have the highest percentage of seniors per capita in Canada and we lack the available geriatric resources compared to other communities.

The Alzheimer Society Niagara Foundation was launched in June of 2006 and is now the fundraising arm that funds the programs and services of the Society. Annually, over $600,000 is raised through generous donations and events such as Coffee Break, Walk for Memories, Curl for Memories and the Peter Saracino Alzheimer Golf Classic.

The Alzheimer Society Niagara Foundation recognizes that individuals with Alzheimer Disease and related dementias and their families need to be treated with respect, integrity, compassion, dignity, and with concern for their privacy and safety. As the disease progresses, preserving the quality of life of the person with dementia will require the provision of appropriate social and physical supports.

When you establish a fund at the Alzheimer Society Niagara Foundation through a tax deductible contribution, you can choose from a variety of fund types that offer satisfying and effective philanthropic gift planning.
Once your fund is established, it can grow tax free through the Foundation’s prudent stewardship to increase total dollars available for charitable distribution. Your fund allows you to give over time even beyond your lifetime.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Alzheimer Society Niagara Foundation is to support the programs and services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and their families residing in the Niagara Region.
